John Arnold
John Arnold O.B.E., managing director and president director of APCO Worldwide's Jakarta office, has had a distinguished career in financial services in Indonesia. Mr. Arnold was previously a senior partner of Ernst & Young in Indonesia and founding chairman of the British Chamber of Commerce. After opting to take early retirement from Ernst & Young, he joined APCO Worldwide in October 2007.
Mr. Arnold was a partner for 22 years in Ernst & Young in Indonesia, prior to which he also worked for them in Singapore and London. He led the firm’s business advisory service practice and was responsible for introducing and leading their annual Entrepreneur of the Year program in Indonesia. He also served as director of business development, marketing and communication.
Mr. Arnold was one of the founders of Indonesia Business Links, an organization to promote corporate responsibility in Indonesia. He has been an active spokesman on corporate governance and corporate responsibility matters for many years addressing both national and international conferences. Issues he has presented on have included “Confronting the Challenge of Corruption” and “Employment Creation and Foreign Investment”. He was a member of the judge panel for the Indonesia Sustainability Reporting Awards for 2007 and is a member of the steering committee for the 2008 Indonesia national conference on “The Accounting Profession’s Response to Climate Change”. Mr Arnold has been appointed recently as the representative for Asia on APCO Worldwide’s internal Responsible Business Committee.
In addition to serving as the chairman of the British Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia for more 10 years, Mr. Arnold was chairman of the Asia Pacific association of British Chambers of Commerce 2002-2004. He was also a board member of the European Chamber of Commerce for many years and served as the first vice chairman of the International Business Chamber. He is currently a member of the Council of Trustees of the British International School of Jakarta and formerly served as vice-chairman and treasurer of the School's Board of Governors.
Mr Arnold was made Officer of the order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 2002 in recognition of his services to British-Indonesian commercial relations. He was elected an honorary lifetime member of the British Chamber of Commerce after stepping down as chairman in 2007.
Mr. Arnold is a British citizen. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales, and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Geography from the University of Leeds.
